Today we had a presentation at assembly about box of hope. More details will be coming soon but ask the grade 5 students what it means. This week sees the start of some grade 5 communities. On Monday the comic club met to develop their first issue, today the magic club taught each other new tricks and tomorrow is the first bake sale of the year, mmmmmm :-). Well done to all of the groups for following through on their action and taking an idea and making it reality.
Tomorrow is casual dress day! All money collected will go towards Kanzi-Kibera organisation who run a school in Nairobi Kenya. Today Grade 5 students presented their communities to the elementary school. There was much interest in all of the different communities. Well done to all of the students for great communication skills.
Today we had our first wiki lesson. Each community created a wiki to help coordinate their wiki, adding pages for all of the areas we have discussed so far such as goals, mission statement and roles and responsibilities. At the moment these wikis are not open to the public until each group finishes the basic set up and decides how they want to communicate to their audience. Stay tuned for more wiki action soon.
Mission Statements
Today we looked at different mission statements such as Google's and the HKSRFUR. We then wrote a mission statement for our community. Here is the HKA mission statement which we used as an example. 'Hong Kong Academy’s mission is to provide an outstanding international education for children in Hong Kong by developing and nurturing intellectually curious, critically thinking, ethically-minded, self-assured students who achieve their full potential as individuals and as responsible members of the global community.' Mr. Dare Visits Today we had a lot of visitors in Grade 5. Mr Dare our head of school came into the class to talk to the students about his role in the school and include them in the decision making process. We had some great ideas for him including suggestion that the school would benefit from some more plants. Perhaps we should get some for our classroom? What do you think and if you agree what type? Add suggestions in the comments. Communities We had six presentations by teacher s involved in different communities. Check out the new communities curriculum area to see what we have been doing. 10th Year Birthday Celebration Create A Poster Help us get everyone excited about the Birthday Party!!
